I've spent all day going over scope and sequence for our group project, we've picked a year group and a curriculum area and I believe we've successfully linked it. I've also had a go at changing my background colour on my webpage. Um..no luck so far. I've followed the prompts on the site manager but no luck, I must be missing a step. Some times I get very frustrated with myself ! I'm starting to think about assignment 2b. Not sure if I'm understanding the criteria, I need to have another read... Continue reading ...
Group assignment

After meeting two people from my group on Thursday to pass around idea's for our project, I've spent the weekend reflecting on our choices. We're looking at using a range of technology for this project, particulary stopmotion animation. As well as introducing students to powerpoint they also need to be familiar with a digital camera and story board templates. I'm also looking at incorporating 'sustainable schools' as a topic which will involve the digital cameras and powerpoint. Will need to ... Continue reading ...
Final reflection

I spent most of last night until the early hours of this morning tweaking and polishing my website. I've added the two video links from YouTube, which took me a few hours as I'd never before even looked at YouTube-that was something my children do- let alone link it to a website I'd created. I feel a little like the 'proud peacock' and at every opportunity I show off my site to my doubting teenagers. I've also changed some of the font sizes to make the headings stand out and I thought I'd lin... Continue reading ...
Video calls

After a long chat with myself I decided to see if I could add another dimension to my social networking page by making it more interactive. I have added two short self-help clips explaining how to make free video calls and screen share function. My thinking behind using the video calls was to allow my parents to see their grandchildren, how they've changed and grown. This will also be beneficial to my children to be able to see and connect to people of an older generation. The screen share o... Continue reading ...
Another learning curve

This is my greatest lesson I think so far. I had originally created and downloaded recipe cards on smileboxuk I had them linked to my recipe page and was very pleased with the outcome. HOWEVER, I had neglected to check with the copyright permission on the images I'd used and unforturnatly I've found out a couple of the imges I can't use. I wanted to be able to show my new found computer skills off, but neglected to correctly checkout my resources. Sadly, I've removed the images as I realise I... Continue reading ...
A life long learner

I have successfully linked my pdf file of Skype instructions to my social network page. I have finished checking all of my site now including my references and hopefully everything is as it should be. On reflection, I have found this unit to be the most effective learning tool to date. I have contributed to and participated in the discussion board, posting questions and asking for help, (for example how do I reference a screenshot) and have been surprised by the response of help I've receive... Linking Skype instructions
Posted by Helen Burridge on Tuesday, March 15, 2011,
Today I thought I would spend time going over my webpage checking spellings, references and generally making sure all of the links work.I opened my webpage to view all contents clicked on my Skype instrucion link only to be told by a little window that my file could not be found! Arghh.... I don't know why it can't be found, so as a result I deleted the link re-saved the powerpoint to a PDF and have saved the link again. Lets hope the link works this time. Linking Taste.com

After spending all day Saturday trying to figure out how to create a menu planner and post it on my site, I finally gave up in frustration. However, I came back to it today and found out I had to drag the selected recipes into the boxes provided. How easy was that! One minor problem though was how do I get others to view what I'd created?after numerous unsuccessful attempts, I found out I had to copy and paste the url address into my webpage and link it. I'd been adding the link to the wrong ... Continue reading ...
a new link

I've used an image from the 'creative commons' site, emailed the owner to ask permission to use his image on my website. I've explained what it will be used for and that the website will be published he was very helpful and said 'Yes" I could use the image as long as I linked it to his website. So that's what I've set out to do today. This was another first for me- never linked a website before! Continue reading ...
frustrated!

I'm trying to paste an image along the right hand side of my front page- with no success! I can insert the text box or pic box but I can't figure out how to move them into the exact position I want. I've used the layout tools but it isn't what I want. I think perhaps I'm too used to using publisher and I think that's what I'm trying to do. I've learnt how to resize the images and to tweak them, so thats something. Continue reading ...

Well, I've spent over an hour opening a flicr account! This is a brand new site for me- as are many of the sites I've visited while in the process of creating this website. I thought my home page needed a little colour and decided to have a look at flicr, I've seen the site talked about on the discussion board and thought - lets have a look. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with it though?? Is it solely to display your pictures or can you actually copy any of the images? I've also opened... Continue reading ...

I have just successfully figured out, single handedly how to retrieve my recipe creation from smilebox to my website!! I'm at this moment jumping for joy! After creating one of my favourite recipes on smilebox I thought I could only send it to an email address. Then after having a good look around the site- there it was, I could send it as a blog. in the small recess of my mind I vaguely remember having to copy and paste a Htm.. something or other. (that's technical jargon). After clicking o... Continue reading ...

Well, thanks to Jenni I know what I need to do now with my Skype images. I've written the letter to my dad (in extra large font) explaining the benefits of installing Skype, I think he'll be won over as soon as I mention it's free! I've inserted the images I wanted to use to make it a little easier for him to follow the instructions and now all that's left to do is tweak it abit. I'm now looking at downloading images for my recipes from flicr, as I couldn't download from taste.com. This left ... Continue reading ...

Well, its almost time to submit my assingment 1b and I have to say that although I've enjoyed working on these new social resources I haven't found all of them easy to navigate. Part one of my assignment is to teach my Dad how to use Skype. Easy I know, but I've never used printscreen shot before and I have to say it took me a long while to figure that one out! I'll spare you boring details but suffice to say dinner was being prepared when I started and we were well into cleaning up mode by t... Continue reading ...
