Group Discussions

This evening our whole group managed to get together to chat on Skype! I'd collaborated with the others in the group to organise a convienient time to make a conference call. The best laid plans...I felt so frustrated, I felt responsible to ensure this call went well as I had proposed it to the group. I could not figure out how to include all four of us on the conference call. So while I was chatting to two members of the group I googled Skype help, found out why the final member was not able to connect, closed down and reaccepted her and successfully orchestrated a conference call. Finally,we were able to discuss our topic, what we want the students tolearn and how we are going to implement that learning experience. We also managed to delegate roles to each member of the group, finally signing off after a long, productive group discussion. In assignment 1b, part of my social resource was 'screen share' on Skype. I made a comment in my blog at the time, I thought this social resource would be of value in a group situation. On reflection, I should have encouraged the use of Skype screen share for our group discussion. We were discussing websites and passing links via email to each other, whereas if we had of used Skype screen share I believe it would have benefitted the group. I'm going to suggest we use Skype screen share at our next planning meeting. All in all, this proved to be a very friendly, relaxed and positive group meeting.
